On April 12, 2022, the City of Lake Worth passed an ordinance which changes the process for a landlord to raise rent and terminate month to month tenancies. This ordinance requires residential landlords in the City to give 60 days’ prior written notice to all residential tenants with a set lease term, or a monthly tenancy without a specific duration, of a proposed rental rate increase that exceeds five percent (5%). If the landlord fails to deliver the notice, the landlord cannot raise the rent and cannot evict the tenant based on the newer amount of rent. Additionally, if a landlord or tenant want to terminate a month to month tenancy, they are required to serve a 60 days’ notice on the tenant. This ordinance only applies to the City of Lake Worth and is effective immediately.
